M548 Full Tracked Cargo Carrier

Based on the M113, the M548 vehicles are unarmored lightweight vehicles designed to transport large loads on terrains a typical wheeled vehicle would struggle with. Produced by FMC, this vehicle only weighs 12.8 tons. With only a single .50 caliber machine gun typically mounted, the vehicle is purely for logistical purposes as the aluminum body can attest to.

Mechanically speaking, these vehicles run on a Detroit Diesel 6v53 two-stroke diesel engine and an Allison three-speed transmission. This produces a relatively low top speed for the vehicle at 38 miles per hour but makes for more low-end torque and pumping power to run to the steering, braking, and all other systems hydraulically. This ultimately proved to be a robust enough design that it is still in use today by the United States military and several other nations.

This particular example on display, like the two others, produces approximately 215 horsepower and has a maximum range of 300 miles.
